Happy Chinese New Year!
If only I hadn't just had lunch. Yesterday afternoon, intending to do a little food shopping at Asia World Market in Plano, I stumbled into an exciting new Asian food court a couple doors to the west in the same strip mall. (It's the shopping center on Legacy just west of Central where Little Sichuan Cuisine and J.S. Chen's Dimsum and BBQ are located.) I did have room for this scallion pancake, from a Chinese dumpling and pancake stand, where the young woman behind the counter excitedly gave me the low-down. The food court opened about two months ago, she said. "There's nothing like it in Texas! The only thing we don't have is Japanese." A couple near the dumpling stand was feasting on fantastic-looking grilled fish and great-looking Korean banchan, all from a stand called Tofu House. There are also a couple of Chinese noodle stands, one where you can get hand-pulled or shaved noodles (the other one has shaved noodles too); a Thai place; an Asian beer stand; and a stand called Big Bowl Shaving Ice, where we got the dessert pictured here -- a huge bowl of shaved matcha tea ice with sweet red beans and a scoop of strawberry ice cream. What fun!
All the stands seemed to be cash only. Have you been? What'd you try? I can't wait to go back when I'm hungry!
